Google buys an RSS solution
Of course, that headline isn’t entirely true - of course Google has RSS solutions (you can get most of your typical Goog info like blog search results, or news alerts via RSS).
But it is sounding pretty confirmed that Google has bought FeedBurner (TechCrunch article on how imminent the deal sounds is here), and what this does mean is that Google has bought an RSS advertising solution.
Current Feedburner ad products include banners and text links inserted into feeds. They currently manage the RSS content for a wide range of sites (samples here). As you can guess, the list is US-centric.
I’ve been wondering for a while when Australian sites/publishers are going to start testing advertising in their content RSS feeds - depending on how fast the integration happens with Feedburner, will Google beat them all to Aussie advertisers by integrating a "AdWords for RSS" option?
