A week of links roundup

by andrew pascoe on July 26th, 2006

Whew, how time flies …

So here’s a condensed link dump of things I’ve bookmarked.

Remember as well, things I’m marking can be found at my delicious page (rss feed is here), or under “link roll” section - located right hand side, towards the bottom - on my blog webpage.

  • Microsoft’s mapping offering - Live Local - now has Australian maps in it. The official blog entry is here, via Frank Arrigo.
  • AdNews has a podcast with Paul Budde, where he talks about IPTV. Its a nice, brief, topline view of what IPTV is and isn’t. (Although there’s no RSS feed - at least that I could spot - so technically, its just various audio files promoted via the AdNews site, not a podcast. All the same, content of this episode is good.)
  • Some details are out regarding the trial of video on demand (VoD) that bricks and mortar video rental franchisess Video Ezy will conduct later this year. This AustIT article has some info, including this para: “Among secret details he [MD Paul Uniacke] would not discuss is a plan to use the service to generate in-store traffic”.
  • Via AdNews story (sub reqd) news that Avenue A Razorfish, the big US creative agency, has purchased Amnesia here in Australia - online agency of Xbox amongst other advertisers.
  • From this News Ltd article, quoting ARIA figures, the (wholesale) value of CD & DVD music sales were up by 1.5% in the six months to June, year on year. When online sales are included, the figure goes up to 2.4% growth. CD singles dropped by 30%, mostly due to online sales increasing, by 30%. Those digital downloads were worth $10million in the Jan-June 06.
  • For those keeping an eye on the search marketing click-fraud stories, an interesting move from Google. They have added a “invalid clicks” data option to AdWords reports. This will let advertisers see how many fraudulent clicks Google is kindly automatically reducing from your account …. Google blog post here.
